Okay, so today I went to a few Rolex specialty stores to check out the two-tone black Submariner. I’ve been eyeing this watch for a while now, and I finally decided to get some hands-on experience with it.
First stop, I walked into the shop on Fifth Avenue, and man, was it fancy! I told the salesperson that I was interested in the two-tone Submariner, and he immediately knew what I was talking about.
He brought out this beauty, a Rolex Submariner, reference number 116613. It was the two-tone model with a black dial, and let me tell you, it was even more stunning in person. The combination of the stainless steel and the yellow gold was just… chef’s kiss.
I got to try it on, and the weight was significant but not uncomfortable at around 130g. The salesperson explained that only the middle links and the crown are made of gold, which makes sense.
Comparing Dials
- Gloss Black: The one I tried on had a glossy black dial. It looked super sleek and classic.
- Sunburst Black: I asked about other dial options, and the salesperson mentioned a sunburst black version. He said it has a more dynamic look, catching the light differently. I didn’t see this one in person, but now I’m curious.
I spent a good amount of time just admiring the watch, turning it over in my hands, and getting a feel for it. I mean a two-tone Submariner is not a cheap watch, so I wanted to make sure. But they told me it was out of stock!
Next, I visited a few other Rolex stores. Same story, they let me try one but also out of stock. One of them even tried to sell me a pre-owned one and offer a discount or something. I’m like nah, I want a new one.
Anyway, after spending the day with the two-tone black Submariner, I’m even more convinced that this is the watch for me. Now I just gotta decide if I want to go with the gloss black or try to find a sunburst black to compare. It’s a tough choice, but hey, it’s a good problem to have, right?
I still have to sleep on it to see if it fits my style, but I think it does. I’ll probably call back next week to ask about their stock again.
