Alright, let’s talk about this little project I got myself into. It all started when I saw this Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001 watch. Man, that thing is a beauty! I saw it in a shop window, all shiny and fancy. It looked so classic, but the price tag, woah, it was way out of my league.
So, what’s a guy to do? I got this crazy idea. I thought, “Why not try to remake it myself?” I know, I know, it sounds nuts, but I was determined. I started by looking up everything I could find about this watch. I mean, every little detail. I wanted to see what makes it tick, literally.
I spent hours online, just digging through forums, articles, you name it. I found out that this Calatrava 6119G-001 is 39mm in diameter and 8.08mm thick. It’s got this “Clous de Paris” pattern, which is like a bunch of tiny pyramids all over the bezel. It looked complicated, but I was already in too deep to back out now.
First thing I did was try to sketch out the design. I’m no artist, but I tried my best to copy the look of that watch. Then, I started thinking about the materials. I couldn’t use white gold like the original, obviously, but I found some other metals that could work. It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. I went to so many stores, trying to find the right stuff.
- Started by sketching the watch face.
- Gathered materials. Not real gold, though!
- Tried to figure out how to make that “Clous de Paris” pattern.
- Spent days just trying to get the dimensions right.
- Made a lot of mistakes. A LOT.
The hardest part was definitely trying to replicate that “Clous de Paris” pattern. I tried so many different tools and techniques, and most of them didn’t work. But I kept at it. I messed up so many times, had to start over from scratch more than once. But finally, after what felt like forever, I started to get the hang of it. It wasn’t perfect, not even close to the real Patek Philippe, but it was starting to look like something.
The Final Stretch
Putting it all together was another challenge. I had to be super careful not to mess anything up. One wrong move, and I’d have to start all over again. Slowly but surely, I assembled the watch. It took me weeks, working on it whenever I had some free time. And you know what? When I finally finished, it was such a great feeling.
It’s not the same as owning a real Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001, but this remake, it’s special to me. It’s a reminder that even if something seems impossible, you can still give it a shot. You might surprise yourself with what you can achieve.
