Hey, folks! Gather ’round, and let me tell you about this little project I just finished. So, I got this idea in my head to try and make a copy of one of those super expensive watches, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227R-001. Yeah, the ones you see on the wrists of folks with more money than sense. I figured, why not give it a shot? It is not a real one but a copy for a cheap price.
First, I started digging around to see what makes this watch tick, literally. Found out it’s got this shiny rose gold case, about 39mm across, not too big, not too small. And it’s pretty thin, only about 9.24mm thick. I even found some stuff in German talking about the “Calatrava 5227R in Roségold” – fancy, huh?
Then I began the actual work. Got myself some materials that looked like rose gold. Not the real deal, of course, but something that wouldn’t turn my wrist green. I used my tools to carefully measure and cut, trying to get that 39mm case just right. It wasn’t easy, I messed up a couple of times, but hey, that’s part of learning, right?
Next up was making it thin. This watch is known for being slim, so I had to sand down my case until it was pretty close to that 9.24mm mark. I don’t have those fancy machines they use in Switzerland, so it was all elbow grease and patience. But it gets really close to the real one.
Now, for the inside, I couldn’t replicate all those tiny parts – 164 of them, they say! So, I got a simple watch movement, the kind you can find without breaking the bank. I had to make sure it fit snugly inside my homemade case. I spent hours tinkering, adjusting, and cursing a bit, I won’t lie. But eventually, I got it all together.
- Measured and cut the case to 39mm.
- Sanded it down to around 9.24mm thick.
- Fitted a simple watch movement inside.
- Attached a leather strap I had lying around.
After all was said and done, I ended up with a watch that looks like the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227R-001. It doesn’t have all the fancy stuff inside, but from the outside, you’d have a hard time telling it apart from those expensive ones. I even found a brown leather strap that looks just like the one on the real watch.
It’s my little project.
So, there you have it. That’s how I spent my time making a copy of a fancy watch. It was a fun challenge, and I learned a lot along the way. Plus, now I have a nice-looking watch without having to sell my car to afford it. Hope you enjoyed hearing about my little adventure. See y’all next time!
