I’m sharing my latest project today, remaking the Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRÉ SATCHEL BAG. Yeah, that fancy thing. Sounds like a mouthful, doesn’t it? But I reckon it’s just a purse, a real nice one. I saw it online and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” So, I started by looking up a bunch of pictures and descriptions of this bag. Found some good stuff on the official Saint Laurent website and even some deals on other sites.
First, I gathered all the materials. I didn’t have that fancy “box saint laurent leather” they talk about, so I opted for some good quality leather I had lying around. I also needed some canvas, since the original bag uses both materials. It’s all about making do with what you have, right?
Then, I started sketching. I’m no artist, but I managed to draw a rough design based on the images I found. It was a bit tricky to get the dimensions right, but after a few tries, I had something that looked like the LE CARRÉ SATCHEL. I measured and cut the leather and canvas according to my sketch. This part took a while because I wanted to make sure everything was as precise as possible.
Next, I began sewing. I used my old sewing machine, which has seen better days, but it still does the job. I carefully stitched the leather and canvas pieces together, following the lines I had marked earlier. There were a few hiccups along the way, like when the thread snapped, but I just rethreaded the needle and kept going.
- Sewing the main body: This was the most time-consuming part. I had to make sure the seams were straight and strong.
- Adding the flap: The flap had to be just right, not too big or too small. I attached it with a sturdy stitch to ensure it wouldn’t come loose.
- Creating the strap: I used a long piece of leather for the strap and attached it to the sides of the bag. I made sure it was adjustable, just like the original.
After all the sewing was done, I added the finishing touches. I found a nice buckle that looked similar to the one on the real bag and attached it to the flap. It gave the bag a more polished look. I also added some metal rings to the strap to make it adjustable. It’s these little details that make a big difference.
The Result
Finally, I had my very own handmade version of the YSL LE CARRÉ SATCHEL BAG. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It looks quite similar to the real thing, and it’s functional too. I can fit all my essentials in it, and it feels sturdy enough for everyday use.
This project was a fun challenge. It taught me a lot about working with different materials and paying attention to detail. Plus, it’s always satisfying to create something with your own hands.
