Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this Yves Saint Laurent LE CARRé SATCHEL bag for a while now. It’s, like, super classy and all that. But the price? Ouch. So, I decided, “Why not try making one myself?” I mean, how hard could it be, right?
First, I spent hours staring at pictures of the bag online. I got these from the official store and some other shopping sites. I zoomed in on every detail, the stitching, the hardware, that little YSL logo. It’s a pretty simple design, really, just a square with a flap.
Then, I had to find the materials. I went to a local craft store and, man, there’s a lot of leather. I finally found some smooth, black leather that looked similar to the original bag. It felt nice, not too cheap, but not crazy expensive either. And the hardware? That was a bit trickier. I found these gold-toned pieces that kinda looked like the ones on the YSL bag. They were not perfect, but hey, close enough.
Next came the actual making part. I’m no sewing expert, but I’ve done some basic stuff before. I used this old sewing machine my grandma gave me. It took a lot of trial and error, I’m not gonna lie. I messed up a few times, had to rip out seams, start over. The hardest part was getting the edges straight and the flap to close properly. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on how to sew leather, how to attach hardware. It was a real learning experience, you know?
After many late nights and a few accidental needle pricks, I finally finished it! It wasn’t exactly like the real YSL bag, of course. My stitching was a little wonky in places, and the leather was a little stiff, but I did it! The flap closed with a satisfying click, and the hardware, though not exactly the same, looked pretty good. The bag looks similar to those sold by Saint Laurent, but mine has an interior zipper pocket, which is more practical.
I even took it out for a spin, and you know what? I felt pretty proud. It held my stuff just fine, and I even got a few compliments. People were surprised when I told them I made it myself.
Here’s what I learned from this whole thing:
- Making your own stuff is way harder than it looks. But it’s also super rewarding.
- You don’t need fancy tools to get started. Just some basic stuff and a lot of patience.
- YouTube is your best friend when you’re learning something new. Seriously, there are tutorials for everything.
- It’s okay to mess up. Just keep trying, and you’ll get there eventually.
So, yeah, that’s my story of how I made a “YSL” bag. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot. Would I do it again? Maybe. But next time, I might try something a little simpler!
